Pressure Washing Quote Profit Checklist | Free Owner Guide

TAILORSCAN FORGE · FREE PRESSURE-WASHING OWNER GUIDE

Check the margin before you send another washing quote

For owner-operated pressure washing, soft washing and exterior-cleaning businesses. Your actual hourly production rate, surface area, job conditions and business costs should determine the modeled cost, not an invented universal price per square foot.

1. Measure the job, then estimate paid hours

Record the area, your own observed square feet completed per working hour, setup, paid travel, and other time. Multiply the total working clock-hours by crew size to estimate paid person-hours. Add the true loaded labor cost without double-counting payroll expenses.

2. Record the real per-job costs

  • Labor and applicable burden
  • Consumables, equipment allocation and travel
  • Site-specific protection, disposal and other direct costs
  • Overhead allocation and a separately defined rework or risk allowance
  • Payment processing fees and owner-selected target margin

3. Avoid the markup versus margin mistake

Fictional pricing exercise, not an industry benchmark: total modeled job costs = $200. Target margin = 30%. Processing fee = 3% plus $0.30.

Scenario Result
30% markup on cost $260.00 quoted
Modeled margin after payment fees at $260 About 20.0%
Price for a 30% modeled margin after fees About $298.96

Formula: ($200 + $0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.30 − 0.03) = approximately $298.96. A target price is not proof that a customer will accept it.

4. Inspect the quote process

For the same inquiry cohort, record how many inquiries arrived, how many were quoted, how many were accepted, and what happened to each other quote. Review five controls: initial response time, documented scope and exclusions, sent-quote status, appropriate follow-up, and declined/lost reason. Unknown status is not confirmed lost revenue.
